A clinical approach to the aetiology of uveitis in Bantu adults.

Blood tests including a full blood count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), antistreptolysin titre, mucoprotein levels, blood sugar levels, gonococcal complement-fixation test, toxoplasma dye and complement-fixation tests, Rose latex test for arthritis, serum protein electrophoresis, histoplasma complement-fixation test, and Wassernann, Treponema pallidum immobilization, and fluorescein antibody tests for syphilis. Stools and urine were examined for parasites and micro-organisms, and there were skin tests for tuberculosis. A second group of investigations based on the identification of specific clinical entities was also carried out. Here a presumptive aetiological diagnosis was made on clinical examination of the patients and confirmed by the appropriate special investigations where these existed.
